Department of Sociology


The department of sociology was established in the academic year 2003-2004. The department offers post graduate and research programs to the female students. The department integrate teaching and social commitment with a special concern to the socially excluded groups in the society. The department undertake research especially on women from various funding agencies. The department has well developed computer lab with Wi-Fi facility under RUSA scheme.

The department has undertaken two major research projects from UGC- namely Status of Siddi Women in Karnataka and Reproductive Rights Among Women among rural women. And two minor research projects sponsored by UGC.  The department has completed a prestigious project sponsored by UNDP on District Human Development Report Bagalkot. The department has organised national seminar on Human Rights and Gender equality in 2009 which was sponsored by UGC. It has organised national webinar on Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Society. The department conducted online seminar on Sociological Implications of Covid 19 on Society. It conduct Special Lecture on various issues pertinent to sociology by eminent sociologists. Four Gold Medals have been instituted for the students who secure highest marks in MA sociology in the name of  1. Smt. Chinnamma satyappa Kharchi, 2. Smt. Sundarabai B Kulkarni, 3.Smt. Gouramma Basappa Korishatti,  4. Late Sri. Badiger

Many students have passed NET, SLET and working in government and private sectors. The students are encouraged to participate in national, international seminar, workshop etc.
