- The Department was established in the year 2007, with efforts of then Vice chancellor and Expert in Biotechnology Prof. Geetha Bali and currently offers B.Sc and M.Sc courses in Biotechnology
- National and International collaborations such as Karnataka University (Dharwad), BLDE University (Vijayapura), University of Horticulture Science (Bagalkot). BioBijapur Pvt Ltd (Vijayapura), Cytxon Pvt Ltd (Hubli), Norfolk State University (USA).

- Wet Lab with equipments like PCR, HPLC, Electrophoresis, Water Purifier, Refrigerated centrifuge Gel Dock, Incubator, Shakers, Spectrophotometer etc
- Digital Classroom with sound system.

- Lecture Based: The entire course is lecture based programme with interactive mode, Chalk and talk, using ICT, study material. Seminars are conducted and monitored by the teachers.
- Field Visit: Students visits are arranged to local institutes/ industries such as, wine industry (Vijayapura), CCRI
- Project Based: Compulsory project work leading to dissertation to all the Fourth Semester students.
- Study Tour: Mandatory study tour is conducted for fourth semester students to gain more updated and practical knowledge.
