National Service Scheme (NSS)

 

The NSS Cell is very active enrolling a large number of UG and PG students. The Cell also directs and coordinates with NSS Units of all the affiliated colleges in implementing various programmes. Its activities are conducted through 90 units in colleges affiliated to the University, 3 PG units and 1 open unit. The Cell organizes annual and special camps and socially relevant programmes - like Blood donation camps, Health check up and treatment camps, veterinary camps, legal awareness camps, gender sensitization camps, environment awareness camps and AIDS awareness camps. It also has actively participated in the flood relief programmes.  Organised awareness programmes for all Government Programmes, which helps in the implementation. The Government has ordered from the year 2015-16 the NSS unit is compulsory to all Degree Colleges.  Dr. R. Sunandamma received State Level best NSS Programme Co-ordinator Award for the year 2009-10, Dr. R.V. Gangashetty received State Level best NSS Officer Award for the year 2010-11, and Dr. Shantadevi T. received State Level best NSS Officer Award for the year 2012-13.  Pooja S. Kanti and Shruti T. received State Level best NSS Volunteers Award for the year 2011-12 and 2012-13 respectively.  The NSS units also did constructive woks like construction of university compound walls. The University has been identified as the best university by the Government of Karnataka for its contribution.
